Last night I was one of many who were staying up watching the campaign tally of 350,000 and 500,000 on the home page! I threw in a last $5 thinking - Come On Tally!!! It was like a game show - Will they get it? When? Who gets us over the top and will they get profiled?
Is this sane?
Our own hopes for that experience of being brought to the mountain and living history is mighty.
I think our supporters have this expectation. We are always looking for the "WOW" when he "performs" and yes from the campaign. And like the American on the go culture and you have to keep ME engaged (without effort on my part right?) we expect ingenuity of fundraising appeals. We all wait for the next gimmick to get in on. I was hooked line and sinker for the recent ones-- both that addictive home page tally and the phone call with Obama for successful group fundraising.
BUT how would that expectation play in a Sunday Sermon?
Are we missing the message when we bask in the glow of the messenger? Is fear of that - lying in the back of the minds of the millions of undecided voters out there? As we know with faith, a message backed with action is what moves us out of the darkness.
Look at where we are today and is this where you want to be? Disheartened, cynical, and in fear?
I dream of peace and prosperity and a united America.
Do you believe in it too?
